We are a full-service breast care organization with more than 20 years of experience in providing women with optimal breast care. Our motivation for creating our breast care center was based on our concern that breast care in our community was fragmented and disorganized. A woman could wait for weeks in fear to get answers to basic questions. Additionally, there is often inadequate communication between the treating physician and the patient, and also inadequate communication among the various physicians involved in her care.

Our mission is to provide the highest quality of breast care in a coordinated and timely fashion (Services). The foundation of our approach to breast care is to provide the maximum possible quality of care. This foundation is built upon the experience of a dedicated team of physicians and providers who are committed to the concept of providing optimal care (Our Team Publications). In other breast care organizations, the breast imagers, surgeons, and oncologists have their own independent practices. At our center, the physicians and providers are united into a single organized team, which leads to more efficient care and better communications. Our team is under the same roof, and utilizes a singe management team which works side by side with each other everyday. In addition to the integrated staff, we share the same medical record and scheduling systems.

All this results in a highly-coordinated approach to care that minimizes patient frustrations, reduces redundancies, and prevents problems from “falling through the cracks”.

How do we know that it works? The patients tell us over and over again, and their comments are reinforced in the patient care surveys. But even more important are our outcomes of care. No matter how good the service may be, it doesn't mean much if the final results of care are not exceptional. We have been evaluating the quality of our care for the past 20 years, and are now able to demonstrate improved survival as compared to the state and nation (Outcomes). We can also demonstrate local recurrence rates that are among the lowest reported in the world literature (Measuring Outcomes).

As proud as we are of the accomplishment of our original Breast Center, we have recently taken our approach to breast care to a new level (What's New). We have joined forces with Breastlink to create a new center with an even greater depth of services. The name of our new new center is: Breastlink at Breast Care & Imaging Center of Orange County. Joining our program will be Dr. John Link, the founder of Breastlink (link Dr. John Link ). Dr. Link is a world-renowned breast oncologist, and is the author of two books written for women with breast cancer: The Breast Cancer Survival Manual (Holt, 4th edition 2007), and Take Charge of your Breast Cancer (Holt, 2002) (link to Breastlink: Books).

Another exciting change is our new approach to breast imaging. Dr. June Chen has taken the lead role in coordinating all women's imaging services . Dr. Chen was fellowship trained at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer center in NYC, and has been practicing in Orange County for over 9 years. Since taking on her new role as Director of Women's Imaging Services, she has reorganized and expanded our breast imaging services. She has coordinated the implementation of state-of-the-art-equipment , and has expanded our imaging capacity.

She has recently opened a new diagnostic imaging section directly adjacent to our surgical section. The proximity between diagnostic imaging and surgery enhances communications between the surgeons and the imagers. This leads to efficiency and a higher quality of care. From the patient's point of view, it reduces anxiety from unnecessary waiting or delays in the delivery of results, since a complete diagnostic work-up, including ultrasound, can be performed and a plan of action provided on a single visit to our center (see Services).

Despite all the changes, some things remain the same. We still have an in-house volunteer program to help patients in need of support (Volunteer Program ). The Cordelia Knott Center for Wellness, with it full-service library and Shop On Main is still there for our patients (Cordelia Knott Center for Wellness). We still have a close affiliation with Dr. Jing Li, who assists our patients interested in alternative and complimentary medicine (Dr. Li).
