Lisa Mika Chan, PA-C, joined the Breast Care and Imaging Center of Orange County in the Fall of 2007. Shortly thereafter, Lisa assumed directorship of the High-Risk Breast Cancer Genetic Screening Program at the Center, which identifies patients at an increased lifetime risk of breast and ovarian cancer using specialized DNA testing. Alongside Dr. West, she also consults with patients in the office, assists in and performs in-office outpatient procedures, and performs first-assist operating room duties in the surgery center and hospital. Her professional history also includes experience working in internal medicine and various other surgical sub-specialties.
Lisa graduated Summa Cum Laude as a Phi Beta Kappa Member and Distinguished Scholar from UCLA in 1997, where she received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychobiology/Pre-Medical Sciences. She then took an academic hiatus, taking time to explore the performing arts and humanities, including vocal performance training, music theory, opera, musical theatre, literature and creative writing, and various disciplines in dance. Most recently, Lisa has trained and competed in championship-level Latin ballroom dancing, receiving top placements in the her competitive categories. Lisa decided to return to school to receive a post-graduate Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Loma Linda University in 2005, where she received a top recognition award for her Master's research project and Dean's List honorable mention for academic accomplishment, and also graduated at the top of her class. In her spare time, Lisa still enjoys the performing/visual arts and humanities, as well as world travel with her husband.
Since working at the Breast Care and Imaging Center of Orange County, Lisa has very much enjoyed the rapport she has shared with the patients and staff. She is very intent on sharing the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding breast cancer management with her patients and peers, so as to increase awareness and debunk commonly held beliefs about the disease process. Lisa is looking forward to contributing many productive years to providing care to those affected with breast cancer, and espousing knowledge and promoting routine surveillance in preventing it. |
