Dr. Ivan M. Turpin is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has been in private practice for over 25 years.
Dr. Turpin grew up in Utah, earned his undergraduate degree and medical degree from the University of Utah in 1971. He completed a straight surgery internship and general surgery residency at UCLA/Harbor General Hospital, Torrance in 1978 and his plastic surgery residency at the University of California, Irvine in 1980. This was followed by a Plastic Surgery fellowship with Dr. Bruce Connell, Santa Ana.
Dr. Turpin’s interest in science made him seek a career in medicine, and he attended the University of Utah, majoring in molecular and genetic biology. After medical school, at the University of Utah, he moved to California training in general surgery, followed by an additional residency in plastic surgery. His training was interrupted for two years where he served as Medical Officer for the Pacific Fleet in the waters off Vietnam and Hong Kong during the Vietnam War.
As part of Dr. Turpin’s career in medicine, he has had the pleasure of participating in the University of California, Irvine, Division of Plastic Surgery Residency Program as a Clinical Professor of Surgery and training young residents, primarily in the area of cosmetic surgery. He has served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Children’s Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital of Orange as well as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Joseph Hospital. He is past President of the Orange County Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Turpin is a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Orange County Society of Plastic Surgeons, among many others. He has also been named a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Providing cosmetic surgery for total body enhancement, Dr. Turpin offers all types of breast surgery, abdominoplasty, facelift, blepharoplasty, laser resurfacing, and body sculpturing. When Dr. Turpin performs surgery, either cosmetic or reconstructive, he tampers with a delicate anatomic balance and deals with subtle psychological complexities. Years of experience have helped him meet this challenge. For surgery to be successful, it is critical that he be sensitive to the powerful emotional forces that altering a facial feature or restructuring a body contour unleash. He has learned to both elicit and intuit patient expectations, carefully weighing psychological and physical factors before selecting the appropriate procedure. As a result, individualization of care remains his treatment priority.
Dr. Turpin's surgical procedures are performed in our state-of-the-art surgical center, which is Medicare Certified and has been accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities. The center provides cost effectiveness for the patient, while allowing total discretion and comfort. He also has staff appointments at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange, and Children’s Hospital of Orange where he performs many surgical procedures.
