Breast Self Examination Early Detection Program :
Our Breast Self-Exam program enables a woman to understand the nature of breast tissue and the proper techniques for self-exam. Our approach is designed to increase a woman's knowledge about her body and to increase her sense of confidence and control. The tools for early detection are well-defined and a woman has the opportunity to ask questions and address concerns she may have about early detection. The program, presented by Jan West, R.N., includes a lecture, video and hands-on practice with breast models. There is no dis-robing. Classes are offered at the Cordelia Knott Center for Wellness and are also made available to organizations and businesses throughout the community. For additional information, or to register for this no-cost educational program, call Jan West, R.N. at (714) 731-0233

Women at Risk for lymphedema :
At the time of her diagnosis, a woman is overwhelmed with the need to understand options and to make appropriate decisions relating to her breasts and her life. Many women are unaware at this critical time about the prospect of developing arm swelling from lymph node removal, also called lymphedema (see link Lymphedema). However, as the condition gains recognition, an increasing number of women desire more information to include in the decision-making process and plan of action. Following axillary node dissection and/or radiation therapy, all patients are at risk for developing lymphedema. The onset could occur within weeks, months or many years following treatment; thus it is described as a lifetime risk. Our Women at Risk program is designed to explain how lymphedema develops, to help women understand and recognize the symptoms, and to encourage them to seek treatment early. This program is presented by a registered nurse and includes a slide presentation and lecture. To sign up for a program, please contact Jan West, R.N. at 714 731-0233.

Lymphedema Support Group :
The lymphedema support group is designed to provide education and support to patients who develop lymphedema (see link Lymphedema). Through presentations and group discussions, patients learn to identify and manage the symptoms of lymphedema, to understand the proper therapeutic treatments, and to utilize the dedicated resources that are available in the community.

The lymphedema support group meets on the 4th Thursday night of the month from 7 to 9pm. (except November and December). We meet in the Cordelia Knott Center for Wellness at 230 S. Main Street in Orange. For more information, call Jan West at 714-731-0233.
